These instructions apply to Raspberry Pi running Raspbian versions starting from May 2016 and newer (comes with NOOBS 1.9.1 and newer)

Installing kernel headers. Before installing USB Redirector, you need to install raspberry-kernel-headers package that matches the version of Linux kernel on your Raspberry. This package is required to compile USB Redirector kernel module during installation. There are several ways to install it, depending on your current kernel version.

Option A. If you are running latest stable kernel, you can simply run the command below to install the correct raspberrypi-kernel-headers package. This option will not work if your kernel is not latest or when you are unsure about kernel version, check option B instead. If you used rpi-update to update your Raspberry, check option B as well (rpi-update installs the leading-edge version of the kernel, which may not have kernel-headers package available yet, you need to revert to the stable kernel by running option B)

Code:

sudo apt-get install raspberrypi-kernel-headers

Option B. If you are not on the latest kernel or unsure about your kernel version, use the command below to update the kernel to latest and install matching raspberrypi-kernel-headers in one go. If you don't want to update your kernel, check option C instead.

Code:

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install raspberrypi-kernel-headers raspberrypi-kernel raspberrypi-bootloader

Option C. If you are not on the latest kernel and don't want to update, you can install the matching raspberrypi-kernel-headers package like shown below.

Code:

cd ~

wget https://archive.raspberrypi.org/debian/pool/main/r/raspberrypi-firmware/raspberrypi-kernel-headers_`dpkg-query -f='${Version}' --show raspberrypi-kernel`_armhf.deb

sudo dpkg -i ./raspberrypi-kernel-headers_`dpkg-query -f='${Version}' --show raspberrypi-kernel`_armhf.deb

Installing USB Redirector for Linux. Once raspberrypi-kernel-headers is installed, you can proceed with installation of USB Redirector. Raspberry Pi requires arm-gnueabihf version of USB Redirector for Linux.

Code:

cd ~

wget https://www.incentivespro.com/usb-redirector-linux-arm-gnueabihf.tar.gz

tar -zxf ./usb-redirector-linux-arm-gnueabihf.tar.gz

cd usb-redirector-linux-arm-gnueabihf

sudo ./installer.sh install-server
