Hi,

We've been using USB Redirector successfully for a long time. We use it to redirect a USB port on our Windows 2012 R2 Hyper V Host to one of its guest servers (also Windows 2012 R2).

However, in recent months we've had an issue with your software making our server unresponsive to any input method (keyboard, mouse). The only way of making the host server functional again is to boot into safe mode and remove your software. It seems that a Windows update has caused some sort of conflict or security measure to kick in.

Is this a known issue and is there a workaround, please?

Hi,

It is possible that you have enabled auto-sharing mode. In this mode, USB
Redirector will share all USB devices that you attach to the computer. When
device is shared, it is not available for local use.

To resolve this, you can either disable auto-sharing or add your keyboard and mouse to exclusions to prevent sharing.

Please see here for more information:

Hi,

It could be that thanks.

When I uninstalled but stored the settings and it froze up again once installed. However, when I uninstalled and specified to not store the settings, then the reinstall was successful.

Thanks.

Yes, it is typical behaviour when auto-sharing is enabled.

The easier way to fix this is log into the server through RDP and add keyboard and mouse to exclusions, as well as disable auto-sharing if not needed.
