Hi,

I have a USB SmartCard device attached to a physical Windows server 2012 R2 host with Hyper-V role. USB Redirector client, running on a Windows 7 x86 VM, successfully detects and connects the USB SmartCard. Everything regarding the smartcard works well when connecting to the VM via VNC. However, when connecting to the same VM via RDP, SmartCard is not recognised by the SmartCard driver software. Note that in both cases (VNC and RDP) USB Redirector client correctly displays USB SmartCard device as connected.
Any ideas what could be the problem with the RDP connection?

Hi Micko,

Yes, unfortunately Windows blocks any access to USB SmartCard devices inside RDP session. The only smart cards accessible in this case are those that were redirected through RDP's internal smart card redirection capabilities.

Hi Peter,

thanks for the answer. In that case we'll solve the SmartCard problem by using VNC.

It is a good solution. VNC does not create an RDP session, but conects to an existing local one, thus it is not affected by RDP problems.
